Ed Baker - Northern California Director

Ed Baker, a native of the State of Arkansas, accepted Christ as his Savior while attending New Hope Baptist Church, located between Sparkman and Holly Springs, Arkansas in the spring of 1944. Learning to sing gospel and spiritual songs in church gave me inspiration that’s been a life of effort toward singing. Through these same years, learning to play the guitar was another blessing God gave.

I, along with a new musician friend (Jimmy Martin) formed my first band in Houston, Texas. The year was 1955, the band name (Clear Sky Boys). Playing a mixture of country/gospel with Bluegrass styling, then called Hillbilly music, has been my life’s passion of music. I’m a 23 year member of the California State Old Time Fiddlers Assoc. as well as a 12 plus yr. member of the California Bluegrass Assoc. I volunteer for both organizations as well as the IBMA in Nashville each year.

When playing engagements now, I book using the name Ed Baker and Friends or Ed Baker and the Wannabees.
